Lakes Area Museum Alliance Unveils LLAMA Character and Campaign to Boost Visits to Its 13 Member Museums

Okoboji, Iowa – The Lakes Area Museum Alliance (LAMA) is thrilled to announce the launch of a new LLAMA Character and Campaign, an exciting initiative designed to shine a spotlight on the alliance and its member museums through the introduction of an engaging and irresistibly hip "LLAMA" character!

The idea for the LLAMA was sparked by volunteers on the Alliance Board and brought to life by Vertical Marketing in Spencer. It was designed to captivate audiences of all ages and ignite excitement about exploring the 13 museums within LAMA. This lively character embodies the spirit of adventure, curiosity, and discovery, serving as a friendly ambassador for our cultural heritage.  With its eye-catching design and playful demeanor, the LLAMA character will act as a beacon, drawing visitors to discover the hidden treasures and untold stories of the Lakes Area.

Mary Dreier, Chair of the Lakes Area Museum Alliance, and Director of the Dickinson County Museum, expressed her enthusiasm for the campaign: “The LLAMA character is more than just a mascot; it’s a symbol of our commitment to making cultural experiences accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for everyone. We believe it will inspire visitors to explore the rich tapestry of history, art, and innovation housed within our member museums.”

Guests can now receive LLAMA temporary tattoos at each museum, and guests who visit 10 of the 13 museums this summer will be entered to win prizes from local businesses, including a two-night stay at Pick’s Resort.

“The New LLAMA and Campaign is a fantastic opportunity to boost attendance and foster a deeper appreciation for our cultural heritage,” said Drew Hage, Director of Development for the Spirit of Okoboji. “Through creative marketing campaigns, social media activations, and community events, the LLAMA will spark curiosity and inspire visitors to embark on their own museum adventures.”

By leveraging the appeal of the LLAMA character, the Lakes Area Museum Alliance aims to drive traffic to the 13 museums in the Lakes Area Museum Alliance, encouraging families, tourists, and locals alike to engage with their cultural offerings. The LLAMA will serve as a catalyst for increased engagement and enthusiasm, ensuring that our cultural treasures are brought to life for all to enjoy.
